Navigating LinkedIn job search can feel overwhelming at first for newcomers. But it doesn’t have to be. With the right approach, you can make the most of LinkedIn’s features to streamline your job-hunting process.

Why search for Jobs on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn connects professionals all over the world. It helps people search and apply for jobs, build valuable networks, and grow their businesses. LinkedIn boasts over one billion users globally, making it an important hub for employers, job seekers, marketers, and other professionals seeking enhanced visibility and networking.

Additionally, LinkedIn is patronized by high-income earners, with 41% of millionaires having been reported to use it. This encouraging statistic is old, so it's likely that even more millionaires may have joined the platform in recent times.

Here are some LinkedIn job-related stats:

  • 95% of recruiters use LinkedIn regularly
  • Over 30 million job postings are posted yearly
  • Remote job postings increased by 25%
  • Recruiters search by skills 5 times more than by degrees
  • Communication tops in-demand skills
  • 61 million people search for jobs every week
  • 28 million use the #OpentoWork frame
  • 9,000 job applications occur per minute
  • AI-related job posts get 17% more applications
  • 122 million people got interviews via LinkedIn
  • 35.5 million were hired through contacts
  • Over 3 million hires occur annually

To search for jobs on LinkedIn (on Desktop):

  1. Click the â€śJobs” icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click into the Search bar at the top of the page and search by keywords, title, skill, or company name. Indicate your desired location in the box (tagged city, state, or zip code) beside.
    • You can also select from the job roles suggested by LinkedIn based on your qualifications and experience.
    • You’ll be directed to the search results page where you’ll see a list of job postings that suit your job role and location preference.
  3. Use the “All filters” button at the top of the search results page to filter the results.
    • Once you’ve applied all the filters, you can switch on the â€śSet alert” toggle and set job alerts.
  4. Click the job posting to view the job description and apply for the job if it suits you.

Note: There are two types of job postings on LinkedIn:

  • “Easy Apply”: This allows you to apply for the job on LinkedIn.
  • “Apply”:  redirects you to the company or third-party website where you can apply for the job.
  • The LinkedIn job search allows you to filter results based on distance from a specific location, and you can adjust the radius in kilometers. By default, LinkedIn uses a 25-mile (approximately 40 km) radius, but you can customize this to any distance from 0 to 160 km.

To search for a remote job:

  1. Click the â€śJobs” icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click the Search field and enter keywords or a company name.
  3. Click the â€śLocation” field and select â€śRemote” from the dropdown menu.
    • You’ll be directed to the search results page where you’ll see a list of job postings that suit your job role and preference.
  4. Use the “All filters” button at the top of the search results page to filter the results.
    • Once you’ve applied all the filters, you can switch on the â€śSet alert” toggle to set job alerts.
  5. Click any job posting on the page to view the job description and apply for it if it suits you.

Wrapping Up

LinkedIn job search remains a powerful way to connect with a wide range of career opportunities and network with potential employers. Its global reach and tailored filters make it popular among job seekers. However, it's important to stay alert—like many large job sites, LinkedIn can sometimes host fraudulent or misleading job postings.

Alternatively if you are looking for a remote job you can use Myremota to find curated, vetted remote work opportunities.
