About the Role
We're hiring a Finance Operations Specialist to support our subsidiaries in Nigeria and Ghana and help us build a finance function we can be proud of.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who is confident with numbers, obsessed with accuracy, and excited to take full ownership of our financial integrity and compliance.
You'll be involved in the entire accounting cycle: from daily transaction recording to monthly and annual financial reporting. You'll ensure our books are accurate and compliant, providing our leadership team with the financial clarity they need to make smart decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Own the full accounting cycle, including managing the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Lead the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Oversee daily financial operations, including payment processing and vendor management
- Prepare and maintain intercompany reconciliations, including the calculation of monthly intercompany transfers and transactions
- Facilitate the year-end process by providing assistance with the preparation of the final account and the consolidated account
- Provide the necessary support for statutory annual audits, regulatory audits, and tax audits by making relevant schedules and source documents available on time
- Manage all tax matters, including the computation and filing of VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other statutory returns, ensuring 100% compliance with all regulatory bodies
- Develop, implement, and enforce robust internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures to mitigate risk and ensure the integrity of financial data
- Partner with finance leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis by providing accurate historical data
- Manage relationships with key financial partners, including banks, auditors, and consultants
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to automate manual accounting tasks and enhance our financial software stack
What We’re Looking For
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong background in financial reporting
- An ICAN/ACCA certification is required
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations
- Proven experience managing month-end/year-end close processes and leading successful external audits
- Previous experience in fintech, e-commerce, or marketplace businesses would be an advantage
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheets; you can manage financial data with expert precision
- An unwavering commitment to precision, consistency, and exceptional attention to detail - you believe in getting it right, every single time
- Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take full ownership of outcomes
- Strong analytical skills and a structured approach to problem-solving
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly explain complex accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders

Success in This Role Looks Like
Within 30 Days
- Take Full Ownership: You have taken complete ownership of the reconciliation process for all payment gateways across our entities.
- Map & Document: You have mapped the current month-end close and management reporting processes from start to finish, identifying all manual steps, bottlenecks, and key dependencies.
- Understand Current State: You have a clear understanding of our current financial operations, including AP/AR management, and have documented the existing processes for reimbursements and payment requests.
Within 60 Days
- Automate Reconciliations: You have researched, proposed, and received approval for a system or tool to automate payment gateway reconciliations. The implementation plan is ready to go.
- Improve Month-End Close: You have implemented at least one significant process improvement that reduces the month-end close timeline, with a clear path to getting it under 10 days.
- Strengthen Management Reporting: You have refined and are delivering monthly consolidated management reports that provide leadership with clear insight into cost drivers, cash flow, and performance trends across all our entities.
- Enhance AP/AR Visibility: You have created and are sharing a clearer, more detailed Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) report, providing better visibility into our working capital.
- Multi-Currency Cash Management: You have begun tracking and reporting on cash balances across different currencies and entities, providing better visibility into our liquidity position.
Within 90 Days
- Drive Automation: You have successfully implemented the automated reconciliation system and automated at least 50% of the manual processes involved in the month-end close.
- Achieve 10-Day Close: You have achieved a month-end close of 10 days or less for all entities.
- Improve Cash Flow Management: You have implemented a new process for cash flow forecasting and are presenting a weekly cash flow management report to leadership, improving our working capital efficiency.
- Train the Team: You have hosted a training session for the wider team to ensure everyone is aware of and correctly using the new, streamlined finance processes.
