Techloy.com is looking for a Senior Data Journalist to lead our data-driven storytelling. You will dive deep into the numbers behind venture deal flows, startup valuations, the fintech ecosystem, tech layoffs and salary data and the consumer electronics industry across key emerging markets. Your mission is to find the story within the spreadsheet and turn complex datasets into exclusive, interactive, and visually stunning reports that define the conversation in the tech industry.
+ Scrape, mine, and verify datasets from diverse sources (regulatory filings, VC databases, GitHub, and proprietary internal data).
+ Use statistical analysis to uncover trends, anomalies, and insights that regular beat reporting might miss.
+ Design and develop static and interactive graphics (charts, maps, and dashboards) that make complex tech trends digestible.
+ Work alongside the editorial team to provide data support for breaking news and long-form investigative pieces.
+ Produce a recurring data-led column or newsletter that establishes the publication as the definitive source for tech intelligence.
The Requirements+ 5+ years in journalism, with at least 3 years focused on data-centric reporting.
+ Proficiency in SQL for database queries and Excel/Google Sheets for quick analysis.
+ Experience with Python or R for data analysis and scraping.
+ Mastery of tools like D3.js, Flourish, Datawrapper, or Tableau.
+ Strong news judgment and the ability to write clean, punchy prose to accompany your visuals.
+ A deep understanding of the emerging market tech landscape, fintech, and global VC trends.
+ Based on standards within the technology media industry, along with exciting perks.
+ Depending on skills and experience.
+ The salary range is between ₦7,200,000 and ₦9,600,000 per annum.
