Executing a census across the DRC’s vast geographical footprint poses unique logistical, infrastructural, and technological challenges, including remote terrains, limited connectivity, and dynamic administrative boundaries.

Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Representative and the direct supervision of the Census Chief Technical Adviser (CTA), the Cartography Specialist will ensure that any challenges in the cartography processes are quickly identified and brought to the attention of the CTA for the attention of management. S/he will also provide recommendations for measures required to ensure that census Geographic Information Systems /Cartography processes continue to move forward in a timely manner.

How you can make a difference:
UNFPA is the lead United Nations agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. It is designed to accelerate the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. This mandate is pursued through a focus on four interconnected outcomes: ending the unmet need for family planning; ending preventable maternal deaths; ending gender-based violence and harmful practices; and adapting to demographic change through evidence and rights-based policies.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

1k - 10k Founded 1969
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

UNFPA is formally named the United Nations Population Fund. The organization was created in 1969, the same year the United Nations General Assembly declared “parents have the exclusive right to determine freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children.”

UNFPA calls for the realization of reproductive rights for all and supports access to a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services – including voluntary family planning, maternal health care and comprehensive sexuality education.

Since UNFPA started its work, the world has seen progress: The number and rate of women dying from complications of pregnancy or childbirth has been halved. Families are healthier. Young people are more connected and empowered than ever before.

But too many are still left behind. More than 760 million people are mired in extreme poverty. Sexual and reproductive health problems are a leading cause of death and disability for women in the developing world. Young people bear the highest risks of HIV infection and unintended pregnancy. Many millions of girls face the prospect of child marriage and other harmful practices, such as female genital mutilation (FGM).

UNFPA works in more than 150 countries and territories that are home to the vast majority of the world’s people.
